hi, i'm hollis!

Cooking With Friends is all about creating fun, engaging food experiences where kids can learn, make a mess, and enjoy delicious dishes in a low-pressure, joy-filled environment.
Outside of classes, you can find me in my own kitchen, cooking with my toddler and embracing the beautiful chaos of food and family.
I grew up in the kitchen, learning from my creative and resourceful grandmother. While making everything from bread to tofu to schupfnudeln, she showed me how fun it can be to cook in the company of others. Those early experiences in the kitchen shaped me. After 15 years as an early childhood and elementary school teacher, I wanted to bring my passion for cooking and teaching together.

I am the parent of a toddler, so I get it! I plan delicious and nutritious menus that I think will appeal to most young children. I decide what we’re cooking; they decide what they will eat and how much. I encourage them to take “adventure bites” (i.e. a food that feels like a stretch) but I don’t force them to eat anything they don’t want to eat. I’ve found that some kids really surprise us in a fun, low-stakes, no-pressure food environment.
Yes! Every menu is planned with participants’ needs in mind. Before class, families complete a pre-class survey so I can tailor recipes accordingly—without making anyone feel singled out.
Yes! Cooking with Friends classes always include one of life’s greatest pleasures… dessert! Classes are balanced, with both sweet and savory dishes.
